Material & Care

What is Minerva Box leather and what makes it special?

Minerva Box is a premium vegetable-tanned leather. Unlike industrialized embossed leather, its texture is a natural grain created by tumbling the hides in wooden drums, a process that preserves the leather’s most raw and honest tactile sensation.

Why does the texture of my product look different from the photos?

That is the inherent charm of Minerva Box. Since the grain is naturally formed, the size and distribution of the texture vary across different parts of the hide, making every Assomma piece a unique, one of a kind creation.

How will this leather change visually over time?

Over time, Minerva Box develops a stunning Patina effect. Due to its exceptionally high oil content, the leather will gradually darken and develop a silky, semi-matte luster, recording the traces of your time spent with the object.

Do I need to apply leather conditioner frequently?

Not necessarily. Minerva Box is deeply infused with ample natural oils during the tanning process. The best maintenance is frequent use, The natural oils from your hands are its most perfect nourishment.

What should I do if the leather gets wet or develops slight scratches?

Vegetable-tanned leather is sensitive to water; if it gets wet, wipe it immediately with a dry cloth and let it air dry naturally. For slight scratches, simply rubbing the area with your fingertip will often cause the rich oils within the leather to shift and gradually mask the mark.

Why does Assomma insist on using uncoated, natural milled leather?

We pursue material honesty. Uncoated leather allows the hide to breathe; while it retains natural growth marks, the tactile warmth and the vitality that evolves over time cannot be simulated by any chemical coating.

Craft & Logic

What is Leather Crochet technology and how is it different from traditional crochet?

While traditional crochet uses soft yarns, Assomma reinvents it as an art of structural harmony. We use precise pre-punching logic to turn resilient Minerva Box leather into a skeleton, weaving it together with recycled cotton using crochet techniques. This is more than a blend of skills; it is a dimensional evolution from 2D materials to 3D architectural structures.

Is this woven structure stable? Will it loosen over time?

Exceptionally stable. The physical tension of the leather combined with the interlocking loops of the crochet creates a self-locking mechanism. Over time, the leather and thread will conform to each other, making the structure even tighter and more resilient.

Why does Assomma insist on metal hooks over plastic ones?

Material honesty is reciprocal. Handling Minerva Box leather requires strength and precision; the tactile feedback and lifelong durability provided by metal hooks align with our philosophy of long-term companionship.

Are minor irregularities during the weaving process normal?

These are the soulful fingerprints of hand labor. The tension of each stitch reflects the creator’s breath and focus at that moment. These minor fluctuations are not flaws, but evidence of a living creation, distinct from industrial assembly lines.

Sustainability & Vision

Why does Assomma insist on using vegetable-tanned leather?

To achieve true bio-circulation. Unlike chrome-tanned leathers containing heavy metals, Minerva Box is tanned using plant-based tannin extracts, making it skin-safe and biodegradable over decades. It is a gift from nature with a dimension of time.

What does your Plastic-Free commitment include?

Our commitment spans the entire chain: from the recycled cotton threads in the products to the honeycomb paper buffers and water-based eco-tapes in our packaging. We reject all non-biodegradable synthetic materials to ensure Assomma leaves no permanent negative footprint on the planet.

What is the Slow-Made philosophy?

In an era accelerated by algorithms, slowness is a reclamation of order. Every Assomma product undergoes hours of hand-finishing. We do not pursue assembly-line scaling; we pursue the focus and logic behind every inch of stitching.

Can my product be professionally refurbished after years of use?

Certainly. The beauty of Minerva Box is that it ages with grace. If you wish to have your long-standing Assomma piece deeply conditioned or its stitching reinforced, contact our studio to apply for our Lifecycle Reboot service.

Why is the product packaging so minimalist?

Minimalism stems from reflecting on over-design. We have removed all flashy coated papers and plastic laminates, opting for raw fiber cardboard boxes. We believe the best packaging should return to the earth silently after fulfilling its mission of protection.

How can I participate in Assomma’s zero-waste initiative?

The best way to participate is long-term use and passing it down. When an object is imbued with emotion and stories, it transcends the attributes of a consumer good. Additionally, we encourage you to repurpose the paper materials from your package.
